The Alt-8 Results 11/11/2017

This week, Alt Nation decided to change the Alt-18 and condense it to down to the just 8 songs. Personally, I am not a fan, but we will see how it goes. With all the “One and Done” songs this past year, it kind of makes sense. Though I do feel the change was most likely a cost-cutting decision.

In any case, here are the results for the very first Alt-8 Countdown for week 45 of 2017, featuring the top 8 songs requested and/or voted by listeners of Alt Nation on SiriusXM. This week’s countdown was hosted by Madison (@radiomadison).

Im also not a fan of paring down the countdown to 8. No rhyme or reason to do so, except if some people consider a song making the top 18 as a “participation trophy”.

I don’t mind the one-and-dones. Not a fan of this change.

Not a fan either. We should all email XM. There’s just no reason. Also why 8? At least make it ten.

Boo! I guess they’re kicking out the extra ten songs so that the top 5 can get EVEN MORE airplay. I feel like the “record” companies sometimes are pushing pretty hard to have certain songs in a heavier rotation. While I do believe that most of what we hear is listener influenced, I’m not so naive to think there’s no outside leverage going on also.

    RIP ALT 18!!!

    LONG LIVE ALT 18!!!!

One of the things I noticed on the All Access website is that certain songs are getting played more often now (like 60-70 times a week) than earlier this year (40-50 times a week). That might be a factor. I just used that data to calculate what 9-18 would be on my blog.

I had noticed that too. It used to be that 50 was a LOT of spins in a week, but in the last month 4-5 songs are approaching 70 spins. For example, I used to like “The Gold” but it ‘s been overplayed to the point I don’t want to listen to it.

I’m afraid going down to 8 songs makes ALT Nation less transparent in regard to what they play. Hopefully all the Music Directors out there will provide them lots of feedback about this!

Yeah, not feeling it either. I prefer the bigger list.
