Of Monsters and Men is The Unofficial Alt-18 2012 Artist of the Year. Of Monsters and Men is a five-piece indie rock band from Iceland, formed in 2010 with a musical style compared to Arcade Fire and Mumford & Sons.
Their debut album, My Head Is an Animal was released in Iceland on September 20, 2011. After topping the Icelandic charts with their debut single, “Little Talks,” the band signed with Universal Music Group and the album was released in the United States on April 3, 2012.
“Little Talks” made it’s debut on the Alt-18 on November 26, 2011. After 17 weeks on the countdown, it climbed to #1 on March 24, 2012, where it stayed for 2 consecutive weeks. Their second single, “Mountain Sound” debuted on August 4, 2012 and rocketed to the top of the countdown in just 5 weeks. It stayed at #1 for a total of 4 weeks (3 consecutive). Combined, Of Monsters And Men spent a total of 35 weeks on the Alt-18 Countdown in 2012 and “Little Talks” made it’s mark acheiving the #6 spot on the Top 18 of 2012.
Of Monsters and Men are are Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir (co-singer/guitarist), Ragnar “Raggi” Þórhallsson (co-singer/guitarist), Brynjar Leifsson (guitarist), Arnar Rósenkranz Hilmarsson (drummer) and Kristján Páll Kristjánsson (bassist).
